The Phoenix - Wednesday September 27th, 2017

Caribbean Relief and Rhythms

Wednesday, September 27th At The Phoenix Concert Theatre
TORONTO, ON ‑ Friday, September 15, 2017 ‑ On Wednesday, September 27th, The Phoenix
Concert Theatre will play host to “Caribbean Relief and Rhythms”, a benefit for the Caribbean
Islands hardest hit by Hurricane Irma. The event will feature top talent from Toronto and the
Caribbean, with proceeds going to local charities in the islands that are working tirelessly to
provide aid to people affected by the devastation.
Hurricane Irma was the most powerful Atlantic hurricane in recorded history, pummelling
several islands including Barbuda, St Maarten, Anguilla, and St Barts. Thousands of residents
have been rendered homeless; the Prime Minister of Barbuda is calling the island “barely
habitable”.
Funds raised will be disbursed through the Caribana Arts Group, whose members are
communicating directly with individuals and organizations in the islands. A bank account has
already been set up to receive donations prior to the fundraising event, and will stay open to
receive donations throughout October. Details below.
“Caribbean Relief and Rhythms” will feature DJ sets from legendary D.J.s D’Bandit, Dr. Jay and
D.J. Starting from Scratch, as well as appearances from a number of musical guests, including
multi Juno Award Winner Exco Levi, and Soca For Life creators Kerwin Du Bois and Lyrikal.
Tickets are $20, and are available through ticketgateway.com.
Caribana Arts Group has also arranged for a container to be set up at the venue, to collect
essentials for the displaced residents of Barbuda. Items needed include diapers, baby food,
dried and canned milk, soap and toiletries. A full list can be found below.
Tickets for Caribbean Relief and Rhythms will be available beginning today, Friday, September
15th, through Ticket Gateway.com.
