Before 2010, not many people outside of Trinidad knew who JW and Blaze were. The dynamic duo of Ancil “Blaze” Isaacs and Jason “JW” Williams were the popular morning show hosts of “The Red Hot Morning Show” on RED 96.7 FM, the countries number 1 urban radio station – but it wasn’t until 2010 that the duo truly made a name for themselves in the musical industry.
Who can forget (no matter how hard you may try) the craziness that was Palance. At every fete for a year DJ’s had us rocking from side to side and all their performance had the infamous stuffed animal live on stage (can anyone remember what that was?).
In a recent interview, Williams had this to say about the success of Palance:
“It was never about winning. We did not set out to win with Palance, it was just a fun song and people just fell in love with it and it became the Carnival anthem that year.”
Following their wins, JW and Blaze emceed the Beyonce show, which took place days after Carnival at the Queen’s Park Savannah. They even got the chance to teach the superstar the “Palance dance.” The two have remained consistent in the soca arena, and have made it to the finals of the Soca Monarch competition every year since their historic win. This year they released Timing It for the monarch competition.
Above all, the pair are all about having fun onstage. Join them in the T-dot this weekend at Fire Fete on Carnival Sunday. For tickets go to the events section at caribanatoronto.com
